| This paper reports the observation results of the settlement
in the two reinforced-concrete buildings of the same structure constructed
at the same site, the differential settlement in one of which was so severe
to discontinue the construction half-way.
The author investigated the behaviors of the settlement of these buildings on the basis of the results of soil test, and tried to clear its causes. It was noticed that the amount of differential settlements was proportional to the total settlement but its ratio decreased gradually according to the increasing of the rigidity of the super structure as the progress of its construction and in elaspe of time. It was also presumed that the reaction acting to the footings shifted due to differential settlements from the design condition, resulting in the occurence of considerable additional stresses in super structure |
