This paper presents a calculation method and computed results under some conditions on a building as an example, which were investigated for estimation of smoke movement in buildings, and for effect of pressurization as a mean of preventing escape routes from smoke in fire.
It is concluded that mass rates of air or smoke flowing through openings and safety time for escape can be approximately estimated under steady state conditions, and that an approach can be obtained for design to practical systems required to prevent escape routes from smoke in fire, by mean of pressurization or other ways.
